This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing theresources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject andinvestigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed isfor the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. The primary objectives are:1. To compare the time to virologic failure pairwise between the three treatment groups: LPV/r plus EFV, LPV/r plus d4T XR (or ZDV) plus 3TC, and EFV plus d4T XR (or ZDV) plus 3TC. (See Section 3.5 for definition of virologic failure.)2. To compare the time to regimen completion pairwise between the three treatment groups: LPV/r plus EFV, LPV/r plus d4T XR (or ZDV) plus 3TC, and EFV plus d4T XR (or ZDV) plus 3TC. Regimen completion will be defined as either virologic failure or toxicity-related discontinuation of any component of the initial randomized treatment regimen. See sections 3.5 and 3.6 for definition of virologic failure and regimen completion.
