Abstract

This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. The purpose of this study is to: (1) Measure approximately 170 infectious and pro/anti-inflammatory mediators in serial samples obtained from term and preterm infants; (2) Correlate the profile data with clinical and other laboratory data in term and preterm neonates to compile baseline values; (3) Compare term baseline values with preterm baseline values; and (4) Compare baseline values with those found during culture-proven sepsis, recovery from sepsis, clinical sepsis without positive cultures, and no infection.
