The aim of this study is to prospectively test the following three methods to assess the risk of severe neonatal hyperbilirubinemia in a large racially diverse U.S. population: 1) Prediction rules using clinical risk factors; 2) Pre-discharge bilirubin measurement expressed as a risk zone on an hour-specific nomogram; and 3) A prediction rule that combines clinical risk factors and hour-specific bilirubin values.
