This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. This project will compare the effects of lactose and a mixture of the milk based proteins sodium caseinate and alpha-lactalbumin on the plasma tryptophan/LNAA ratio in healthy volunteers. If the mixture of milk-based proteins does not significantly alter the plasma tryptophan/LNAA ratio, then this mixture could provide an alternate to lactose for the placebo phase of other studies.
