This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing theresources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject andinvestigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed isfor the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. The purpose of the study is to 1) evaluate the activation of intracellular proteins in fat after acute leptin administration in healthy subjects; 2) to determine if activation of intracellular prtoeins in fat is similar to intracellular protein activation in immune cells after acute leptin administration; 3) to determine if leptin directly affects the activation of intracellular proteins by comparing intracellular protein activation in isolated human fat cells after incubation with leptin to intracellular protein activation in human fat cells obtained after the administration of leptin to human subjects; 4) to determine if non-flurane general anesthetic agents influence the effect of leptin on intracellular protein activation in fat cells.
