Abstract

The objective of this study is as follows: 1) To compare the efficacy of lamivudine versus placebo in patients with chronic hepatitis B infection who are treatment naive, with regard to improvements in the liver histology and HBeAg seroconversion rates. 2) To assess the safety of the two treatment regimens. 3) To assess population based pharmacokinetics in this patient population. 4) To explore the impacts of the two treatments on occupational productivity.
