This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. DPPOS is a nationwide clinical trial studying whether weight loss through diet and exercise or the diabetes medication metformin can continue to prevent or delay type 2 diabetes in high-risk volunteers who participated in the Diabetes Prevention Program. The hypotheses are that these interventions will result in lower rates of diabetes in former DPP intervention groups compared with the former placebo group; and preventing or delaying diabetes will lead to better health and a reduction in diabetes complications.
