Obstructive sleep apnea/hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS) is a pattern of recurrent hypoxemia and occurs in 1/3 of obese children. In adults, visceral adiposity predicts both OSAHS and the metabolic syndrome. OSAHS itself has been associated with insulin resistance and inflammation. Our goal is to investigate the metabolic correlates of OSAHS in obese children by examining insulin resistance, inflammation, and body fat distribution.
