We are recruiting adolescent girls with anorexia nervosa 12-18 years old, as well as healthy, normal weight girls of the same age range, to determine whether administration of low doses of estrogen leads to an improvement in bone density in anorexia nervosa. This is an 18-month long double blind placebo-controlled research study with a total of 4 hospital visits for qualifying subjects as the 7 other study visits may be comp leted either at MGH or locally. These are four optional overnight visits, which include bone density and hormonal evaluations.
