This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing theresources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject andinvestigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed isfor the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. This is a sub-study to the parent study titled, 'Clinical and Serologic Predictors of Neuropsychiatric SLE.' The overall aim of this sub-investigation of the SALUD study is to assess how bone mineral density changes with disease severity and progression, as well as with medical treatment. Information regarding nutritional intake, including antioxidants, will also be collected to determine the potential etiologic role of nutrition. Previously enrolled participants in the SALUD study will be eligible for participation in this sub-study. Each will be admitted to the GCRC for bone mineral densitometry, completion of nutritional and physical activity assessment questionnaires, and biologic samples collection. The research procedures will be repeated annually.
