This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. Primary Aim 1: To determine whether patients with inborn errors of metabolism (IEM) have a decreased bone density when compared to healthy population controls. Secondary Aim 2: to determine wether bone density varies among the different types of IEM. (Phenylketonuria, homocystinuria, galactosemia, and organic acidemias).
Aim 3 : To examine factors associated with lower bone density among patients with IEM. Specifically, we will examine whether compliance with dietary restrictions, level of physical activity onset of, menses, hormonal levels, and micronurishment levels are associated with bone density.
