This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing theresources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject andinvestigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed isfor the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. The Thalassemia Clinical Research Network is a collaboration among five North American clinical centers to examine the blood disorder thalassemia. The Network will be comprised of a Registry and a number of separate clinical trials and studies relating to thalassemia and its complications. The purpose of the Registry is to collect routine clinical care baseline data on patients with thalassemia. Using these data, we will be able to describe this group of patients and the range of complications that they are afflicted with as a result of their disorder and treatment. Using the Registry data, we will also be able to determine how many patients are potentially eligible for other Thalassemia Clinical Research Network protocols.
