This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. To establish oral THC as a discriminative stimulus and characterize its effects on behavior and cognition. It is hypothesized that THC will function as a discriminative stimulus and produce other effects typically seen following cannabis administration. To determine if the effects of oral THC in humans can also be attributed to indirect involvement of the opioid, GABA and DA systems. It is hypothesized that the opioid agonist hydromorphone and GABA modulator triazolam will partially substitue for THC and will have similar effects to THC on most expermental measures. In contrast it is hypothesized that the indirect DA agonist methylphenidate will not share discriminative-stimulus effects with THC and will have opposite effects on most experimental measures.
