This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. (from ClinicalTrials.gov website) Genistein may stop the growth of tumor cells by blocking some of the enzymes needed for cell growth. Giving genistein before surgery may shrink the tumor so it can be removed. It is not yet known whether genistein is more effective than placebo in treating bladder cancer. This randomized Phase II trial is studying genistein to see how well it works compared to placebo in treating patients who are undergoing surgery for bladder cancer.
