This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. Muscle biopsy will be performed on normal, healthy volunteers to establish the myoblast cell line. The ability to develop, grow, and maintain human muscle cells will aid in the identification of a genetic defect; which, may explain, at least partially, why the muscle cells of persons with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus do not respond to the hormone, insulin.
