This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing theresources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject andinvestigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source,and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed isfor the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator.The purpose of the research study is to collect blood from normal, healthy donors. The blood collected is studied to determine how certain antibodies and other factors found in the blood can play a role in the development of rare lung diseases by comparing normal, healthy blood to the blood found in individuals with these diseases. Approximately 50 subjects will be recruited annually for three years. The study is a minimal risk study without potential direct benefit. Normal healthy donors aged 18 to 40 that meet criteria to donate blood are eligible to participate. Donors complete a medical health and blood donor questionnaire, which are reviewed prior to participation to verify eligibility. The blood is drawn by nurses in the General Clinical Research Center. A sterile, single use needle is used to collect approximately 30 ml of blood. Donors are compensated for their participation.
