This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. ACTG 5150 HIV-infected pregnant women are reported to develop postpardum viral rebound. Changes in adherence to antiretroviral therapy, changes in pharmacokinetics of antiretroviral medications related to physiologic changes of pregnancy and baseline HIV-specific cytotoxic T lymphocytes responses are mechanisms by which postpardum viral load rebound occurs. Consequences of postpardum viral load rebound include the development of viral resistance and immunologic deterioration.
