Abstract

This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing theresources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject andinvestigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source,and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed isfor the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator.Our project involved different areas in the study of sickle cell anemia and other hemoglobinopathies:a) Development of transgenic sickle mice and other animal models for the study of the pathophysiology and the treatment fo sickle cell anemia and related disorders.b) The study of clinical aspects of these diseases that are poorly understood
