This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing theresources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject andinvestigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source,and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed isfor the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator.Proton pump inhibitors block acid produced in the stomach. These medicines can help children who suffer from asthma, some of whom we know have gastroesophageal reflux disease and also seems to help some who don't have GERD. We don't know how PPI medicines work, so this study will check markers of inflammation in the blood of asthma children who take a PPI and will also check how the intestines may work to protect the child.
