The institution listed isfor the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator.HMGB-1 may be an important cytokine involved in the pathogenesis of a sickle cell crisis in patients with Sickle Cell Disease; this hypothesis will be explored as part of the proposed study. There has not been a published study, which has detected the presence of HMGB-1 in patients with Sickle Cell Disease. Our goal is to show undetectable levels in the serum of patients with Sickle Cell Disease and detectable levels in the serum of patients with Sickle Cell Disease experiencing a crisis.
