This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing theresources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject andinvestigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed isfor the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator.
Specific aim 2 involves identifying a panel of leukocyte genes whose level of expression is altered by thyroid hormone in collaboration with Dr. Eric Hoffman from Children's National Medical Center. Gene expression in two specific cell types: monocytes and CD8 cells is being examined. In addition, we are also planning to perform detection proteomics, in addition to microarray analyses, in the hypothyroid and hyperthyroid subjects enrolled in this study. 14 hypothyroid subjects have been enrolled in and completed the study. One hyperthyroid subject was enrolled in the subject, but unfortunately was lost to follow-up before he completed the protocol. The planned enrollment is 20 hypothyroid and 20 hyperthyroid subjects for a total of 40 subjects
