OVERVIEWThe purpose of the Biostatistics, Modeling and Data Management Core (Core C) of the Emory Molecularand Translational Imaging Center (EMTIC) is to provide a comprehensive, multi-disciplinary resource for thedesign of clinical and basic science experiments, including statistical analysis, image analysis, andsummarizing the results. The core has the following overall goal: to provide statistical and imaging protocolconsulting and collaboration on the design, conduct, analysis and interpretation of all research studies andcores, and to provide, manage and maintain a high-quality research database that supports the projects andcores while preserving the confidentiality of all subject data.
The specific aims are: (1) Provide quantitativeimage analysis, (2) Coordinate and manage statistical activities in the ICMIC to ensure investigators haveready access to statistical consultation and support. (3) Provide imaging protocol and statistical expertise in thedesign of experiments and studies, including research proposal development, specifying analysis methods, sample size determination, randomization procedures, and plans for interim reviews and final analysis. (4)Assist with the writing of image analysis and statistical components of manuscripts. (5) Review the integrityand statistical soundness of all studies. (6) Provide image analysis and statistical analysis for all projects usingappropriate methodologies, and assist in the interpretation and presentation of results. (7) Interact andcollaborate with the Clinical Trials and Translational Research Office in the development of protocols andmonitoring and reporting of clinical data. (8) Maintain a computing facility for the purpose of extractingquantitative physiological information from the collected images. (9) Maintain a computing facility with up-todatesoftware for statistical analysis. (10) Provide computer-based tools that facilitate the storage, retrieval, and viewing of the data generated in the proposed research, thereby creating and maintaining a centralizedrelational database that provides access to common resources and information. (11) Ensure the accuracy ofthe data maintained in the database by software based data consistency and quality control systems. (12)Organize and maintain the database to maximize accuracy and accessibility; while maintaining strictconfidentiality. (13) Provide detailed descriptions of the available populations and resources for current andfuture investigators. (14) Provide high-quality data entry services.
