This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. The research is directed towards the synthesis of theoretically interesting molecules which contain the strained bicyclo(1.1.1) pentane (BCP) moiety. Due to the proximity of the bridgehead carbons and the increased p-character of the C-C bonds, these systems have unusual physical, chemical, electronic and spectroscopic properties. Once synthesize, studies on the proposed molecules will enable us to explore these interesting properties.
