This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. eCABAL or Enhancement of Communication and Bioinformatics Activities in LARIAT is funded through a 1 year supplement to the award INBRE. The goal is to promote sharing and enhancement of teleconferencing and bioinformatics resources among the members of NIH s Western-region IDeA Network (WIN) states in order to make use of network enhancements developed under the LARIAT program. eCABAL has two specific aims: 1) to enhance video conferencing between WIN sites by developing, distributing, and implementing a core set of best practices and guidelines for Access Grid and H.323 video communication in collaboration with local managers and experts at each WIN site, and 2) to develop and implement a plan for accessing functionally-organized shared bioinformatics hardware and software resources that are made available from each WIN institution, and in particular, develop a shared computing GRID across the shared hardware resources such that bioinformatics calculations may leverage the higher levels of collaboration arising from the LARIAT project. eCABAL is currently being administered by the Nevada Center for Bioinformatics (CFB) but is being developed by faculty and staff at all WIN institutions.
