This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. The INBRE Lead Faculty Representative from Western Kentucky University is responsible for overseeing institutional activities related to the program, represents the institution on the steering committee and other INBRE-related subcommittees, and serves as a liaison between the Administrative Core of the INBRE program and the faculty investigators and administrators at WKU. In this budget year, the Lead Faculty Representative played a central role in the successful recruitment of a Neuroscientist to the Department of Biology at WKU (Tenure-track Assistant Professor Position). The lead faculty representative was also successful in obtaining an NSF-EPSCoR Research Start Up grant to assist in providing set-up funds for the newly hired neuroscience assistant professor. The addition of this faculty position will allow WKU to strengthen its research capacity in the area of Neuroscience, enabling the institution to more fully participate in the Kentucky INBRE research network.
