This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing theresources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject andinvestigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source,and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed isfor the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. The molecular biology/functional genomics sub-modules are located in the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation (array analysis), in the Department of Cell Biology and Ophthalmology (equipment rooms), and in Cell Biology (embryo cryo-preservation room). The use and maintenance of the equipment in the equipment sub-module are coordinated by Muayyad Al-Ubaidi, Ph.D. The Microarray Facility provides services to Oklahoma's vision scientists, including consultation on experimental design, RNA QC, labeling, microarray printing, hybridization, image analysis, and statistical and bioinformatics analyses of data. The in vitro and in vivo RNAi facilities provide all necessary equipment necessary to perform the gene knockdowns, both in vitro and in vivo. The Core Embryonic Freezing Facility is used extensively by vision researchers to cryopreserve mouse embryos to avoid the cost and effort required to maintain colonies of mice, to insure against catastrophe (physical, pathological), to prevent genetic drift, to clean a line of pathogens, and to simplify shipping of lines to other institutions.
