This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing theresources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject andinvestigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed isfor the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator.Introduction: The Administrative Core provides fiscal management and general oversight for the entire COBRE.Methods: The Core provides fiscal support for: mentors, all activities that promote scientific growth, new clinical and basic science junior faculty recruitment, and renovations. Results: The following are the results for year 1. The Core provided laboratory set-up monies for each COBRE JPI, opened accounts for each project and provided bi-monthly budget reports for each, coordinated hiring and the purchase of equipment and supplies for each project, coordinated all COBRE programs, initiated the major laboratory renovation plans, and provided the necessary documentation for a project by a new JPI project to take the spot of the JPI that graduated from the program after acquiring independent R01 funding for his project. The COBRE also received high marks from the first meeting of the External Advisory Committee (EAC). Discussion: The Center of Excellence in Oral and Craniofacial Biology has been greatly enhanced by the COBRE and has taken a large step toward enhancing the research enterprise at the LSU School of Dentistry with a critical mass of investigators, structured mentoring of promising junior investigators, and high quality oral health research.
