This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. A needs assessment conducted among junior scientist and institutional priorities for research, the Program Director and the mentors, found the need for a distinctive Faculty Development Core that provides: 1. A well structured plan for mentoring and career development with clearly defined objectives and methods. 2. Objective accountability on the effect of adequate mentoring and career development. 3. A Core that designs and delivers: a. A curriculum for junior faculty on faculty development b. Assists the Program Director, mentors and mentees with monitoring individual career plans c. Plan and conducts a Research Seminar series, Work-in-Progress sessions, Journal Clubs and Grantsmanship Workshops; monitor. d. Evaluates faculty development activities and prepares periodic reports for the Program Director and the Internal and External Advisory committees. e. Prepares and publishes the results in the form of presentations and scholarly publications. The Faculty Development Core proposed here will provide these capabilities to the Program Director and the teams of mentors and PJI's participating in this COBRE.
