AECOM has an extensive ongoing clinical research program in place, including a very active ACTG. These clinical research activities are highly dependent on the utilization of CFAR cores. The clinical CFAR core does not intend to duplicate other existing clinical studies, but to supplement, already funded research and to catalyze clinical research. The Director of the core is also the PI of the AECOM ACTG and will ensure strict adherence to the main goals of the CFAR clinical core: (1) To ensure timely transfer to basic research knowledge into efficacious AIDS patient treatment and AIDS prevention protocols. (2) To promote exchange of information linking clinical needs with research agendas. (3) To enhance interaction between clinicians and AIDS Research personnel. (4) To provide investigators information on means of accessing an undeserved minority population at risk for HIV infection. (5) To provide CFAR investigators access to biostatistical consultation and research planning . (6) To enhance the CFAR's liaison with community based AIDS organization, with community at large and with the target patient population.
