The Biostatistics Core serves as the centralized resource for statistical expertise and datamanagement services to support the research programs and projects conducted by the membersof the Center for AIDS Research (CFAR).
The specific aims of the Biostatistics Core are to: (a)coordinate statistical activities in CFAR to ensure that investigators have ready access to statisticalconsultation and support; (b) provide statistical and epidemiologic expertise in study designincluding research proposal development, sample size determination and power calculation, randomization procedures, data collection form design, and plans for interim and final analyses; (c)develop and manage AIDS related research databases for CFAR investigators; and (d) providestatistical analysis for CFAR projects using contemporary statistical and computing methodologies, including more recently developed capabilities in microarray and proteomics data analyses. Thecore staff expertise in Biostatistics, data management, and epidemiology has been a vitalcomponent of the developmental activities in the CFAR, proving especially helpful for our younginvestigators. The Core is operated under the specific usage policies and priority guidelinesestablished with the advice of the Advisory Committee for the Core.
