Public Health Relevance

Cancer is the leading cause of death in our Northern New England catchment area. Nearly two-thirds of cancer deaths are linked to behaviors that can be avoided or changed, which is the focus of much of our Cancer Control research. Our Cancer Epidemiology research seeks further insight into reducing cancer risk. Researchers from four basic research programs pursue fundamental understanding of cancer that can inform clinical and population-based interventions to reduce the burden of cancer nationally and in our immediate surrounding catchment area.
