Module 3. Molecular Biology and Genotyping (MBG) Dr. Palczewski, Director, Ganna Yakubenko, MS, Manager Overview and Resources: The Molecular Biology Module has been in effect since the flrst funding period of the Case VSRC P30 grant in 1997. In the most recent funding period, the Module has worked especially closely with the Specialized Animal Resource Module to genotype established mouse strains and to characterize newly generated strains using the Cre-Lox recombinase system. Although genotyping is the predominant function of this Module, it also comprises a BioRad Versa Doc Imaging Systemc and a new Eppendorf Realplex2 Master Cycler qPCR machine in addition to the Applied Bioscience qPCR thermocycler, all of which are extensively used by VSRC investigators. Overall, we anticipate that the Module will continue to be very heavily utilized. The MBG Module is located in the centralized VSRC facilities in the Institute of Pathology, and provides technical expertise, access to equipment and techniques for PCR analysis and genotyping, quantitative PCR, and imaging of agarose and acrylamide gels.
