This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. In the last reporting period, the HVEM was used for about 2 weeks. In October, the fuse to the filament circuit was dislodged during a filament change, requiring the high voltage tank to be opened. After this brief operation, the high voltage began arcing as soon as it was turned on to 100 KV, presumably due to weak capacitors that did not survive the pressure changes upon opening the tank. Repair would take 1to 2 weeks with no guarantee of success. At the same time, there is little user interest in the HVEM. The one project that would have required the HVEM in October was completely successfully with montaging on the Tecnai F30. We have thus decided not to repair the HVEM at this time and are pursuing options for decommissioning it.
