This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. With the incorporation of the eTomo graphical user interface (GUI) into the IMOD tomography package, we have extended our software infrastructure to integrate the build and test of the two packages. This has allowed us to implement a beginning-to-end integration test of the IMOD package and the eTomo GUI within the package. This integration test exercises many of the standard data flow paths for tomographic volume generation, providing useful feed back regarding the state of our development branch. We have also expanded the build and test structure to new computer architectures. Automated nightly builds are currently run on the Red Hat Linux 9 and Fedora Core 1 Linux distributions and the SGI based IRIX operation system. Manual build and tests can be run on the Apple Macintosh OS X and Windows operating systems. Automated nightly builds for these remaining two platforms are in the process of being implemented. Finally, we have incorporated unit testing into much of the new functionality added to eTomo and provided test configurations that can be executed both within our development environment and as standalone applications. Easy test configuration execution within our development environment ensures that developers will exercise the tests often to catch defects early in the development process. Standalone external test execution allows testing to be incorporated into the automated nightly build described above and to be executed on an as-needed basis on other platforms to validate and ensure the quality of the software we provide to the community.
