This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. As a part of a targeted proteomic study on the effects of bacteriophage infection on bacterial RNA polymerase, we have identified phage-induced post-translation modification of the components of RNA polymerase. Using both traditional and hypothesis-driven mass spectrometry, we identified a site of arginine ADP-ribosylation and were able to characterize its mass spectrometric fragmentation under ion-trap MS2 and MS3 conditions.
