This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. To better understand the role of telomere-dependent heterochromatic expression site silencing in T. brucei, I hope to identify telomere-specific histone modifications and to test their role in silencing of expression sites in procyclic form T. brucei. To achieve this goal, I will try to enrich for telomeric histones using co-IP techniques developed in the Chait and Rout laboratories. Subsequently, I hope to use mass-spectrocsopy to analyze telomeric histones for characteristic modification.
