This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. We are bringing crystals of a membrane protein that co-transports K+ and Na+. There are no published structures of Na/K-symporters and this structure would shed light into the mechanism of ion co-transport. Recently we were at CHess testing crystals and we found some conditions with crystals that diffract to ~4A. We have been optimizing conditions and need access to check the new crystals and collect full data sets. Data collection at home source has proved to be impossible due to do the weakness of the diffraction pattern.
