This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing theresources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject andinvestigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed isfor the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. The 7T research dedicated 7T whole body system for MR imaging and spectroscopy was installed in the Advanced Imaging Research Center. Detection of intracellular fat, glycogen imaging and 13C NMR spectroscopy will be key development targets as described in Core 3. This instrument, however, opens other areas for investigation in cardiology, psychiatry and pulse sequence development. Several projects are just getting underway: 1) MR spectroscopy of the human brain, lead by Dr. Carol Tamminga, 2) fMRI of the human brain, lead by Dr. Hanzhang Lu, 3) Interactions of high fields with vascular stents, lead by Dr. Manos Brilakis, 4) intracellular fat of ultra-resistant patients with type 2 diabetes, lead by Dr. Fred Dunn, 5) intracellular fat of patients with congestive heart failure, lead by Dr. Manisha Shah and Dr. Sue Beckham, and 6) pulse-sequence development for editing intracellular fat signals, lead by a new faculty recruit, Dr. Changho Choi.
