Abstract

This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing theresources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject andinvestigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source,and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed isfor the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator.Spoke with Enrico about this project on Aug 3 2007. IVGN corporation is the largest supplier of commercial quantum-dot nanocrystals to the biomedical research community. One of the intrinsic limitations of quantum-dot nanocrystal technology is the phenomena of qdot-nanocrystal 'blinking'. Being (essentially) a next-door neighbor to the LFD-UCI (IVGN corporate center in Carlsbad CA), we would like to explore making measurements of this blinking phenomena in the hope of designing qdot-nanocrystals that do not blink. Non-blinking qdot-nanocrystals would further enable biomedical researchers in their studies.
