This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. The focus of this project is to prepare the technical infrastructure needed to carry out the hyperpolarized 129Xe clinical trial on the 1.5T MRI scanner in radiation oncology. The role of the Center for In Vivo Microscopy (CIVM) is to implement and test the pulse sequences necessary for the trial. This involves creating multi-nuclear pulse sequences for ventilation imaging, diffusion imaging, dynamic imaging, and Xenon Polarization Transfer Contrast (XTC) imaging. Pulse sequences will be developed by Gary Cofer and his salary will be supported at 10% by this project for 6 months. Additionally, we may need to use the CIVM 2 Tesla scanner and pulse sequence development environments to do some preliminary testing. Thus, a code needs to be established for billing and tracking purposes.
