This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing theresources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject andinvestigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed isfor the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator.A great deal of effort has gone over the life of the project into ensuring that thescientific community is fully informed of the capabilities of the BioCAT facility and keptabreast of progress. One mechanism is to maintain a strong presence at scientific meetings. Dr. Irving presented a poster on BioCAT time-resolved SAXS developments at the Biology and Synchrotron Radiation (BSR2007) meeting in Manchester this past summer and an invited talk at the Denver Diffraction Conference. In additon, there will be an exhibitor booth (and four posters by BioCAT staff and collaborators presented) at the Biophysical Society Meeting in Long Beach, CA in February. A joint XOR/BioCAT Microprobe Workshop was held November 15, 16, 2007 at the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center Northwestern University. The venue was chosen to maximize exposure to the local biomedical community. Gayle Woloshak (Northwestern University, BioCAT Associate Director for Microbeam Science) was the lead organizer, Tom Irving (BioCAT), Raul Barrea(BioCAT), Vogt (XOR), Moser(XOR), Lai (XOR) were co-organizers. There were 65 participants including the speakers. The emphasis in the program was on scientific presentations, as opposed to technical, and the possible synergies between the BioCAT and XOR beamlines. The plan is to publish a final report, preferably in the peer-reviewed literature. This will be used for guidance for the development of the BioCAT microprobe program and cooperative activities with the APS (XOR) group on sector 2.
