This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing theresources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject andinvestigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed isfor the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. This project involves evaluation (quantitative MRI, neuropsychological, psychiatric) of 75 children with new onset epilepsy and 65 healthy first degree cousin controls (ages 8-18). The purpose is to determine the status of cognition, brain structure and psychiatric history at onset of epilepsy and to follow the course of cognitive, brain, and emotional-behavioral development over a two year interval. All baseline testing has been completed and we are well into the prospective phase of the project with >90% subject retention.
