The imaging core will: (1) perform acquisition, reconstruction, processing and archiving of PET studies for Project 1;(2) retreive and archive CT and MR studies obtained for clinical and research purposes for patients enrolled in the three Projects;(3) provide a blinded overread of CT and MR scans obtained in Project 2 to assess for protocol violations and determine the presence of asymptomatic hemorrhage;(4) perform the imaging processing and analysis of Project 2 MR data (5) prepare CT scans for endpoint adjudication in Project 2;and (6) retreive and archive imaging studies obtained in patients enrolled in the Cognitive Recovery and Rehabilitation Group (CRRG) database. These images will be de-identified and linked to the CRRG database using patient numbers. All PET studies will be performed on the Siemens ECAT EXACT HR 47 PET scanner located in the Neurocritical Care PET Research Facility within the Neurology Neurosurgery Intensive Care Unit (NNICU). This facility is dedicted to scientific research with studies of critically ill patients given top priority. It is outfitted with all life support and monitoring equipment as other beds in the NNICU. Clinical CT studies for Projects 1 and 2 will be performed on clinical equipment at Barnes Jewish Hospital. This equipment includes several multi-ring CT scanners and a new portable CT scanner in the NNICU. Image files are easily through the electronic radiology system to the computer processing and storage facilities in the East Building. We have successfully used this system over the last ten years to study patients with acute ischemic stroke, intracerebral hemorrhage, and traumatic brain injury. MR studies for Projects 2 and 3 will be performed on clinical equipment and the new research scanners in the Center for Clinical Imaging Research located across the hall from the NNICU. This is a research-only facility and is intended to be used for inpatient imaging studies, including critically-ill patients. This facility is equiped with 3.0 and 1.5T Siemens MR scanners.
