This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. Objective: Studies in nonhuman primates with simian immunodeficiency virus (SIV) have demonstrated that live-attenuated viruses are highly effective; however, such vaccines maintain a low level of pathogenicity. The objective of this study was to test the immunogenicity of a SIVdeltavif proviral DNA vaccine administered by the IM and ID routes in rhesus macaques and to test for vaccine efficacy by challenge with pathogenic SIVmac251.
