Established in 1984, the Society for Immunotherapy of Cancer (SITC) is the world?s leading member-driven organization specifically dedicated to improving cancer patient outcomes by advancing the science and application of cancer immunotherapy. It is the mission of SITC to improve cancer patient outcomes by advancing the science, development and application of cancer immunology and immunotherapy through our core values of interaction/integration, innovation, translation and leadership in the field. At the forefront of SITC?s educational charge is the Advances in Cancer Immunotherapy? (ACI) Educational Programming. ACI- San Antonio will focus on recent clinical advancements, practical management of immune-related adverse events, biomarkers in immunotherapy treatments, and what to look for in the future. The regional approach of the ACI program is a unique aspect, and its benefits are twofold: Not only does this strategy increase attendees? access to the programs by limiting their travel, but it also provides invaluable opportunities for network building on a local scale. Both of these factors ensure that providers can access the most up-to-date information during the programs themselves, and build a support system that enables them to implement their new knowledge. By offering the courses at no cost to attendees, SITC also demonstrates a commitment to ensuring that financial barriers do not stand in the way of physicians? knowledge and eventual use of these revolutionary treatments. The course is also designed and approved by experts across the healthcare spectrum: clinical physicians, nurses, pharmacists, emergency physicians, and patient advocates ensure that all points of view are incorporated. Integration of the live program and online courses enables educational opportunities for every type of learner. For those that attend the in-person courses, the online modules can serve as reinforcement of what they?ve previously heard, or allow access to sessions they couldn?t attend in- person due to some running concurrently. For online learners, the use of recorded lecture pieces from the in- person offerings in addition to interactive components, ensures a variety of teaching modalities, all at the pace of the individual learner. Taken together, the ACI program, comprising the in-person courses, webcast, online modules, and other enduring materials and webinars, represents the premier option for healthcare professionals to increase their understanding of the current state of immunotherapy. NIH support for the ACI- San Antonio program will allow continued educational and professional advancement for the entire cancer care team, and the unique opportunity to network with peers and leaders in the field.
