Public Health Relevance

The overall objective of the proposed research is to develop a novel treatment for Hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection. The best current treatment for HCV is successful in only about 50% of those infected with the most prevalent form of the virus, and thus alternative approaches are needed. We propose to design a novel treatment, based on RNA interference, that will inhibit all six genotypes of HCV and prevent the emergence of drug resistant viruses.
