This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. This is a multi site center grant funded by NSF to develop enabling technologies for robotic surgery. The ERC has adopted the 3D Slicer as its visualization platform (e.g., for prostate biopsies under MR guidance in a conventional MRI system) and has contributed technology (e.g., a first generation DICOM reader) to the 3D Slicer. We have worked closely with the ERC engineers to develop a sophisticated modular system for I/O tasks. This system, based on the CORBA standard, allows modular integration of devices such as tracking systems and robots into the 3D Slicer.
