NERCE Administration Core: Dennis L. Kasper, M.D., Harvard Medical School.The primary mission of the Administrative Core is to provide intellectual and strategic guidance to the Centerand its individual projects. Secondly, the Administrative Core will provide the project management, financial,communication, and compliance systems necessary to ensure the efficient and responsible conduct ofresearch and training. To accomplish these objectives, the Administrative Core will: Maintain a Scientific Steering Committee whose members will develop, review and revise strategicdirection and make prioritization decisions. Work collaboratively with Principal Investigators to supporttheir research efforts, Assist and support Principal Investigators to create a path from research towards product developmentpath. Ensure financial accountability for the center's resources. Monitor and ensure regulatory compliance with regard to biosafety, select agent research, use and careof laboratory animals, and research involving human subjects. Manage an emergency response plan. Communicate and reach out to NERCE members, other regional biodefense investigators, biotechnologyand pharmaceutical companies, state and local government and affiliated hospitals. Monitor and assist with the valuation of NERCE research projects, core facilities, emergency responseplan, administrative systems, career development programs and funding of developmental projects.
