Colorectal Cancer Care: A Quality Measurement System - A Partnership Between the Dept of Vet Affairs and the Dept of DefenseThe purpose of this agreement is to foster joint activity between the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and National Cancer Institute (NCI) to develop and pilot a cancer care quality measurement system that assesses both technical and patient-centered quality of care. The specific objectives are to (1) develop a sustainable, ongoing, and portable quality measurement system designed to provide data on the clinical and interpersonal quality of care colorectal cancer patients and their family caregivers receive; (2) incorporate an effective, efficient and valid approach to the systematic collection of patient and caregiver reports and ratings on relevant dimensions of quality of care.; (3) use the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) guidelines as benchmarks for the clinical standard of care, the evidence on interpersonal aspects of care that affect quality and outcomes, and the US Department of Health and Human Services' (DHHS) Office of Minority Health's publication of National Standards for Culturally and Linguistically Appropriate Services in Health Care; (4) work with our colleagues in the Department of Defense to implement the Cancer Care Quality Measurement System (CCQMS) in pilot facilities in their health care system; (5) create CCQMS reports for initial and continuous monitoring and evaluation of cancer care; (6) establish the requirements for updating and maintaining the CCQMS, and (7) establish the requirements for transferring and implementing CCQMS in other health care systems.
