This project uses funds, under the auspices of the Small Grants for Exploratory Research (SGER) program, to compile a web-based, interactive Earth System Atlas to display global environmental change data in the form of maps and time series at various time scales. The researchers will develop a web-based, interactive Atlas that will: 1) use peer-reviewed data, 2) draw from an extensive international network of scientists and institutions; and 3) offer explanatory notes targeted to the user's needs to develop custom maps and time series.

The research could have broad impact on the wider science and civil communities in catalyzing new thinking in issues surrounding climate, atmospheric dynamics, and human and cultural evolution by offering scientific data in a new perspective. The Atlas holds the promise of providing the broadest possible dissemination of global change scientific results that are policy-relevant, environmentally timely, and understandable to a broad array of users.
